in divine Positano
It is hard to find a place more romantic than Positano.
Colorful houses tumbling down the cliffside to the water below, the sea breeze sweet with the scent of citrus blossoms and jasmine.
Endless blue in the azure sky above and the turquoise sea below. Let yourself fall in love with Positano!
The beauty of Positano is in the sweeping views, the fresh local cuisine, the scent of lemon orchards and colours of wisteria and bouganvilla vines. Palazzo Santa Croce, set above it all, is the perfect location to fall in love with the best of the Amalfi Coast.
Positano climbs steeply up the cliffside from the beach to the Li Parlati neighborhood at the top (where Palazzo Santa Croce is located), along narrow lanes and winding staircases.
Montepertuso and Nocelle
Two picturesque hamlets near Positano: Montepertuso is known for its legend of the “mountain pierced by the index finger of the Madonna”, and Nocelle is a popular resting point along the famed Path of the Gods hiking trail.
The Saracen Towers
The series of historic towers dotting the coastline were once used as lookouts to guard the coast against Saracen pirates.
The Church of Santa Maria Assunta
Here pilgrims venerate a Byzantine painting of the black Madonna, said to have arrived in Positano by miracle.
You can walk to this quieter rock beach bay from Positano’s Spiaggia Grande along the scenic “Lovers’ Trail” skirting the cliffside.
Positano is famous for its resort fashion known as “pezze di Positano”, with flowing, bohemian summer dresses and blouses in linen and cotton.
The best way to explore Italy’s spectacular Amalfi Coast is by sea, especially on board a “gozzo”, the small traditional boat used by the area’s fishermen.
Our concierge will be happy to organize boat trips with stops at the most exclusive beach clubs and waterfront restaurants or, for those keen to sail a little farther afield, the nearby island of Capri to swim in the shadow of the Faraglioni sea stacks.
Excursions in the vicinity
Palazzo Santa Croce is the perfect base from which to explore the Amalfi Coast and surrounding area. Pompeii, Sorrento, Amalfi, and Ravello are easily reached by car, and Capri is just a 30 minute sail away.
Our concierge can arrange any excursions or day trips you request.
In the majestic historical kitchen of the Palazzo Santa Croce, all guests are invited to participate in a mini-cooking course featuring the preparation of traditional local dishes. Our chef will demonstrate how to prepare a dish that each guest may select from a number of recipes from the Amalfi Coast. For those who are passionate about cooking, more comprehensive cooking courses are also available, where guests can learn how to prepare a number of local specialties.
The kitchen is fully equipped, with lovely marble top counters, copper pots, and two ovens that include a wood-burning furnace for preparing bread and pizza.
